With the exception of Correct Toes®, we do not sell any products listed here.  These are merely products that we have found to be helpful in achieving healthcare goals.

I am delighted to have had the honor of shadowing Dr. Ray McClanahan and his amazing staff.  I learned how Correct Toes® help return the foot to a natural, healthy balance.  After years of working with people with a variety of foot, ankle, knee, and hip problems, I’ve learned the importance of foot health on the rest of the body.  In my opinion Correct Toes® offers the most complete healing process, allowing a myriad of issues to heal, primarily on their, own, but as a direct result of using the product.

We sell Correct Toes® at Body Balance, but feel free to check out the site owned by developer, Dr. Ray McClanahan (NW Portland office). (They are $65.00 per pair anywhere you buy them.)

Dr. McClanahan has LOTS of amazing information about feet, anatomy, shoes, and how to heal from a variety of foot issues.

You were born with perfect feet

Babies’ feet are designed to provide balance and stability. With a broad sole and splayed toes, feet form our foundation.

In our society, foot shape and function change as we age. As feet are exposed to conventional footwear, toes compress and curl. Rigid footwear and arch support diminish muscle activation and toe range of motion, causing weakness and atrophy in the foot. With the long-term use of restrictive footwear, our once dexterous and mobile toes lose their ability to move independently. In cultures around the world who remain barefoot or minimally shod, toes maintain natural shape and splay, and foot and toe strength and dexterity is preserved through adulthood and into old age.

In search of a better way

Correct Toes were designed by sports podiatrist and elite distance runner Dr. Ray McClanahan, who was unsatisfied with the inconsistent and temporary results offered through conventional symptom management techniques: orthotics, medication and surgery. He was also frustrated with his own persistent foot pain and recurring running injuries. For both his patients and himself, Dr. Ray desired to cure the root cause of the foot problems rather than settle for symptom management. He embarked on a mission to discover a truly curative method of foot care.

Over time, through clinical experience, literature review, footwear analysis, and observations of unshod elite runners, Dr. Ray realized the powerful healing effect of rehabilitating and strengthening the feet, and that natural toe splay is an essential component of long-term foot health. Ultimately, he developed Correct Toes®, customizable and comfortable toe spacers that would enable his patients to combat and prevent common foot problems. With his new approach to foot care, Dr. Ray successfully reversed his own foot problems as well as those of thousands of patients, for which he is thrilled and grateful. Today Correct Toes® have become a vital tool for those who find their highest joy when in motion.

Align. Strengthen. Restore.

Regular use of Correct Toes in shoes that are sufficiently wide, lightweight, and flexible can, over time, correct a wide variety of foot problems. Examples of conditions treated are: bunions, hammertoes, ingrown toenails, heel pain or plantar fasciitis, corns, neuromas, capsulitis, lower leg pain, and runner’s knee. Amazingly, no orthotics, surgeries, or medications are required!

Medical:  Correct Toes can be used during rehabilitation or as an alternative to common costly procedures, and painful invasive methods.

Fitness:  Correct Toes can be beneficial during a variety of activities, including walking, running, and hiking.

Wellness:  Proven to improve balance and proprioception, Correct Toes can be used to immediately impact stability within activities like Yoga and Pilates.

Align toes and improve balance and stability. Similar to braces impacting the alignment of teeth, Correct Toes slowly and progressively change foot architecture. Structural changes create a wider base of support, improving balance, proprioception, gait and posture.

Strengthen muscles throughout the foot and lower leg. Accompanied by naturally-shaped footwear, Correct Toes encourage the foot to move, flex and bend. As muscles strengthen, the foot is able to support itself, eliminating the need for artificial arch support and orthotics.

Restore foot function and relieve foot pain. Correct Toes is a foot health tool that can be used to restore normal and natural foot and toe function. Foot pain and problems can be resolved when the toes are realigned in the way that nature intended.

Anyone with diabetes or with diminished sensation of the feet should NOT use Correct Toes. Also, anyone with diminished circulation (peripheral arterial disease or “PAD”) should NOT use Correct Toes. If for any reason you are uncertain about whether you should use Correct Toes, you should consult your holistically-minded healthcare provider.
